Shake to Shuffle

Shake to Shuffle

The shake to shuffle feature on your iPhone — or iPod Touch — lets you switch to another randomly selected song in your Music application without tapping the “Next” icon. With shake to shuffle, you force your Music app to advance your playlist to another track just by shaking the iOS device back and forth. This feature is meant to make it faster to switch to another track, adding convenience to your Music app.

If you are running or walking. however, you may accidentally shake your device enough to trigger the feature when you don’t want to change songs. Unless you disable shake to shuffle on your iOS device, it will continue to switch songs as you run or move and probably get on your nerves Fortunately, it is easy to disable shake to shuffle on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

1. Go to the Settings application.
One of your device’s native applications, the Settings app is gray and has two gear wheels on it. Your Settings application is used to alter your preferences for every other application, including the Music app, formerly known as the iPod app.

2. Choose the Music application.
Once you are in the Settings application, you will see options for settings that apply to your entire device, as well as a list of all applications that have individual settings available. Scroll down to the third group of options on the screen, and tap the line with the Music app icon.

3 Toggle the Shake to Shuffle Setting
Once you have the Music settings screen open, tap the white circle next to “Shake to Shuffle” to toggle its setting from “On” to “Off.” You will know the setting has been disabled when the blue bar disappears and the word “Off” appears in faded gray letters. The settings changes take effect immediately, so you don’t have to restart your iPhone or iPod Touch before shake to shuffle stops.

4. Hit the Home Button
Once you have finished changing your shake to shuffle settings, pressing the Home button will return your iOS device to the home screen. Your iPhone or iPod will not automatically reopen the Music application, even if it is still running in the background. To open the app again and see the song controls, just tap the orange Music app. After your turn off shake to shuffle, the setting will remain disabled until you manually change it again. You can once again run, jump and move freely without the risk of inadvertently moving your Music app to another song track.
