Apple designed the iPhone to be locked into their system. Only Apple-approved applications, music, movies and TV shows are downloadable from the Apple iTunes store. There are numerous third-party applications available that Apple does not support. Downloading this third-party application requires a jailbroken iPhone.
The jailbreak process unlocks the iPhone file system so you can download third-party applications, themes and utilities from the Cydia store. Jailbreaking involves downloading a free software off the internet and installing it on your iPhone. This modification of the iPhone operating system is against Apple’s terms of service. Jailbreaking does void your warranty with Apple. Jailbreaking your iPhone does have disadvantages including crashing, lower battery life and highly increased security risks.
Geeks Union recommends only those really comfortable with iOS and troubleshooting attempt to jailbreak.
